Red Flag Warning issued May 22 at 2:22PM CDT until May 23 at 9:00PM CDT by NWS Midland/Odessa TX ...A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING FOR THE HIGHER TERRAIN AND ADJACENT PLAINS OF WEST TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST NEW MEXICO FOR RELATIVE HUMIDITY VALUES AS LOW AS 2 PERCENT, 20 FT WINDS GREATER THAN 20 MPH AND EXTREME FIRE DANGER... * AFFECTED AREA...Sacramento Foothills and Guadalupe Mountains, Chaves Plains, Eddy Plains, Guadalupe Mountains Above 7000 Feet, Guadalupe and Delaware Mountains, Van Horn and Highway 54 Corridor and Eastern Culberson County. * TIMING...From noon CDT /11 AM MDT/ to 9 PM CDT /8 PM MDT/ Thursday. * WINDS...West 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. * RELATIVE HUMIDITY...As low as 2 percent. * RFTI...5 to 7 or critical to extreme. * IMPACTS...Avoid the use of open flames or any activities that may generate sparks. Accidental ignitions will have the potential to grow into dangerous wind-driven wildfires. A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures will increase potential for fire growth.
